JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Media, Campaign and Communications Officer
Oxfam GB’s Azerbaijan programme has recently been awarded funding by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and has a number of vacancies that we are looking to fill in our Barda office:
This project will focus on employment and income generation of the rural poor through development of vegetables and crops production, as well as processing and the establishment of marketing value chains in the Barda, Tartar and Agdam districts of Azerbaijan. This project will be applying the Making Markets Work for the Poor approach with a view to fostering pro-poor growth within the sub-sectors of vegetable and crops.
The main scope of this project will be to facilitate and catalyze incentives, capacity development and improved interaction between private sector, government players and associations. In delivering this project Oxfam GB will be working closely with Unilever to link farmers to Unilever’s global supply chains through the Knorr brand in Azerbaijan. Oxfam GB is really excited by this opportunity and look forward to applications from suitably qualified, experience and highly motivated individuals.
Key activities: • Collection of case studies and stories for media, campaigning and advocacy in particular for influencing local government authorities, gender awareness campaigns at the community level. • Translates material between English, Azerbaijani – and manages contracts for larger translation tasks. • To achieve strategic coverage for Oxfam and its work through communicating with journalists & broadcasters, in writing and face-to-face briefings,. This will include: (i) Research and writing press releases; (ii) organizing media briefings; facilitating trips to the field; collect case studies (in-depth interviews and photographs) from the project as appropriate. • Build staff and key partners’ capacity to use media effectively through, collating, packaging and processing of information to make it accessible for communication purposes.
Key competencies: • Education to degree level in job related sector • Professional communications skills, gained within a journalism/PR environment, to communicate and adapt complex policy and development issues to different levels of target audience; • Skilled in an integrated approach to advocacy that includes lobbying, public campaigning • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Azerbaijan • Proven experience of using MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point) • Demonstrable ability to think strategically, organize, plan and prioritise work to achieve results • Flexibility, ability to work independently and under pressure.
